Fishing With Great Grandpa and Grandma McCall

What is the first thing boys do when they get to a lake?

Throw stones of course!

When Great Grandma and Great Grandpa got there they had time to eat.
And get the poles ready.
And give some lovin's
And goof around..
And finish eating..

Then they have time to catch fish.(though i think this one was Ava's)
And goof around some more...

Great-Grandpa showing us how it's done...
Great-Grandma there to cheer us on.

Matthew's 9th Birthday

Happy Birthday Bean!
He got to go fishing with Pop Pop and yep they caught fish! All this kid wanted for his birthday was an armadillo. Just in case you are wondering he wanted it for a pet...a REAL...LIVE...ARAMADILLO! Not happening. I did search online and almost got him a taxidermied real armadillo but those are surprisingly prices!  So instead we settled for this...
...He was happily satisfied. Grandma got him some cool spywear so that made it even better.
Love you so much kid!

Fishing Fools

PopPop took Nicholas fishing for his birthday with Marcus, one of their favorite things to do together.

I'd say they had a very successful day!

FIshing Derby 2010

Yet another fun year at the fishing derby! It never gets old. We always have fun but this year was awesome as soon as we put the lines in the water we were pulling them back in with fish in tow. It was hard to keep up with them, unhooking, re-baiting, casting, then pulling them back in. They were going crazy! We had fun trying to land them and had a lot that got away. Shermie was good at taking care of his own line. There was a three fish limit. He was the last to get all his fish but he also had a bunch get away.
It was a good thing we had Gramie, PopPop and Aunt Nana to help or we would not have been able to keep up with all the fish. Tuffer was the second to get his fish.
Matthew was third to get his three, but I think he caught and lost the most.
Nic was the first and he caught the Biggest fish. He was the fish runner for the rest of them and ran the fish to the weigh in station after his brothers and sister got their three.
Annalyn's first fishing derby and she ate it up. She was not afraid of the fish at all. She did not want to have help reeling them in (even though she needed it). She got every excited as she watched them come in. Another fisher is born. Annalyn was the fourth to get her fish.
Here is our bountiful catch. Annalyn was wiped out from all the fun.
What a fun time!

Not a Fish to Be Found

Last Saturday we had the opportunity to go fishing with Gramie and PopPop on their boat at Vega Lake. The boys where very excited to go. They have only been fishing once this year and that was in a small pond. The boys, Annalyn and I picked up lunch and headed to the lake. Gramie helped us get everyone on the boat and in a few minutes we all had our lines in the water. I think the boys must have picked up ants and put them in their pants before boarding! They could not sit still for nothing (reeling lines in, having them thrown out again, walking back and forth, etc. general good time fun... Right?). We kept telling them they were scarring the fish away but those ants would not let them be. After about an hour and a half we headed in because I could see that the younger ones were done and we had caught no fish, not even a bit. By the time we got back home I a picture from Gramie on my cell phone. They caught FIVE fish after we left. GO Figure! (well, with the return of quiet I'm sure the fish were thrilled) Thanks Gramie and PopPop for the effort anyway.

Fishing in the Rain

This last weekend was the annual Gene Taylor's Fishing Derby. They stock the pond in front of their store with tons of trout. Some have tags for prizes and trophies. We try to go every year with Gramie and Pop pop. The boys have lot of fun and look forward to it. This year was particularly fun as it started raining just as we started fishing.

Here they are all lined up: Nic, Matt, Shermie, Tuffer
Is Sherman Peter actually getting ready to bait a hook? Glad I caught a picture of that! It's proof he can do it. :) (OK so he does bait the hooks but he leaves the fish to me. He's the one in the black hood behind the boys)
Shermie and Nic were the only ones who landed their fish. But Tuffer and Matthew had them on the line so it was still fun for all despite the rain. We love fishing.

You can see I didn't bother trying to stay dry, there was just no sense in it. By the time we were done Mom and I were soaked. (Sherman Peter had gone in and bought a water proof jacket and I should have let him get me one)

Well, part of fishing is getting wet, but maybe not this wet. It did make it more interesting at any rate. (p.s. Mom Sherman still wants his coat back :)

Fishing with Gramie and Pop pop '08

Here are some of the pictures of the boys fishing with Gramie and Pop pop. They each got to go with them one at a time for camping and fishing. The boys really look forward to it and enjoy it lot! In fact some try to get to go twice (Matthew).

Mostly it's just catch and release because none of us are big on eating fish with some exceptions (Tuffer). Most of us do like salmon and halibut but not other fish.

Tuffer brought these home for us to eat. (yuck!) Luckily we happened to be having salmon that night so it impersonated Tuffer's trout and everyone was happy.

The one rule is you have to be four years old to go with them overnight, much to Nicholas' disappointment. He will be old enough next year and he will get to go on a day fishing trip this year.
